Collision Detection, a blog run by a bloke called Clive Thompson has an article on single button gaming, and points to a marvilous little site called Globz Mini Games, which features a set of 13 wickedly addictive games that use a single button. This is the kind of gaming it’s all about. The games involve tactics, using a very limited set of abilities to achieve a goal, and work out to be stupidly fun.

As Clive puts it;

In games, as in poetry, it’s the limitations that produce creativity.

In a similar vein, I should probably point out the site Orisinal, which has a huge set of truly beautiful games, all of which share the simple one or two button mentality.

Simplicity is something I really appreciate, and if you can get something to work using the bare minimum, it definately falls into line with my major philosphy (which, I should note, I’m still developing).
