Blizzard on DS and PSP?

I know this is old news so far as the web goes, but damn it I’m going to comment on it.

It seems, according to Pro-G, that Blizzard wanted to know whether people would buy Starcraft on the DS, were it created. I won’t mention how cool that would be (need I even mention the possibility of a portable WCIII?).

Further to that is today’s news that Blizzard has shut down Blizzard North (of Diablo/Diablo II fame), offering staff there the option to move to Blizzard HQ to work on a secret project, which could be indicative of the company’s handheld intentions. Blizzard is hardly short on money, with World of Warcraft pushing over 3.5 million users and Vivendi reporting increased profits in part thanks to WoW. So pushing an established and wildly popular series onto more platforms while cutting out operating fat seems only sensible. Long live Blizzard, and for the sake of all things pure and good, make Starcraft 2 a reality before the end of the decade! (Ghost is a positive sign).
