DS Sells Like Wildfire
Not that anyone really wants wildfire, but it’s worth noting that old skool HCG affiliate, The Magicbox (hey Chris!), is reporting that the Nintendo DS was the highest selling game console in Japan for the week of May 16 - 22, 2005. This is no small part due to Nintendogs being the highest selling game.
Now, I don’t want HCG to become the Nintendo fanboy page it once was. I am noting this because Nintendogs is the first of what seems to be Nintendo’s non-game games. With Elecktroplankton just around the corner, I believe we are witnessing a shift in the mantra of game production, much in the way that independent films don’t follow the genre-based productions of Hollywood.
Here’s hoping the next generation of consoles brings about a renaissance of originality, because this endless stream of FPS, sports and racing games is doing nothing for the advancement of game production as an art form.

HCG wasn’t a Nintendo Fanboy site. They other companies just don’t make anything really big to get hyped over 90% of the time. :/
That’s true. I AM more inclined to cover the weird and wonderful of the gaming world.
And Halo, GTA and yet another realistic racing game or Final Fantasy are not weird, wonderful or even worth bothering with, really. I should really take an anti-genre anti-cookie cutter stance here, with a few exceptions of course (Zelda, Mario, Resident Evil and other franchises that innovate with each iteration)
…perhaps I’ve decided on this site’s calling. :)
